"I've known Juul for an eternity. Another eternity, it seems. From what he himself calls his "former life". But in my eyes there is no break, no separation. The Juul of then and the Juul of now - form one whole. An evolution, not a revolution. A continuity of who he always was.

As an architect and business manager, Juul was never a man of the crowd. He did not follow the crowd, because he always searched for what lay beneath. For the deeper layers, the invisible threads that connects everything. The superficial, the fast, the simple—that did not suit him. His path was therefore often harder, steeper, but integrity weighs more than convenience. For Juul, a higher goal was always more important than quick profit.

There was a moment when Juul was angry with me. No, angry is not the word—disappointed. I had written an ironic piece about a politician. Juul, rightly, thought that was unacceptable. He's someone who believes in people. Who approaches them warmly, gently, with respect. He sees the good in others, even if it's hidden. That day he taught me something I've never forgotten. I've never done it again since.

And then that moment, some thirty years ago. Juul and I were on our way to Basel, to the Biennale. A small hotel in Alsace, a sultry summer evening. After dinner we sat outside, under a breathtaking starry sky. The Milky Way as our backdrop. We talked for hours. About the universe, our existence, about faith, about the why and the wherefore. Until the sky on the horizon began to color again and the day announced itself.

Juul was searching then. But I know now: he found what he was looking for. He freed himself. He came home. In his calling. In his art. In his family.

I look at him and smile. It's okay, buddy. It's okay."

Juul is the personification of good. He knows how to stay sharp, without being hard, and combines understanding with a critical eye for what can be improved. This strength makes him not only a visionary, but also a person to be truly grateful for.

Our paths have crossed many times, and although our paths are sometimes far apart, we always find each other again. That is something I cherish.
